I picked 12 of the 16 teams still remaining in the upcoming round of 16.  Not great, but not bad either considering some of the unexpected results.

Where did I go wrong?

1 – Germany, along with everyone else?  Sweden advanced instead.

2 – Japan – I had Poland advancing in that group and I feel a bit better as they knocked off Japan in the final group game.

3 – Russia – I mentioned earlier that I learned a valuable lesson picking Saudi Arabia over Russia because Frans Hoek, who has been helping grow soccer in Northern California for over 20 years, is the assistant coach for Saudi Arabia.  Lesson learned.

4 – Croatia – I must admit, I am a bit embarrassed to say that I jumped on the feel good Iceland story and had them advancing instead of Croatia.

I will now clear the slate and pick game by game.  Good news is my family (wife Renee, 19 year old daughter Sally, 16 year old daughter Gabby and 7 year old son Ely) picked all of the games thus far.  The current order is:

1 – ME!

2 – Gabby

3 – Renee and Sally tied

4 – Ely

Sally, Ely and I all picked Germany to win.  Renee picked Brazil and Gabby picked Argentina so they both have a chance at the overall champion still.

Bragging rights in our house is a big thing!
