The tournament has caught fire.  All of the games are meaningful, not that the opening games weren’t (well, USA aside), but now every game has something at stake.  Advancing, winning the group, or avoiding certain teams has turned up the intensity.

Last night was a great example when Scotland took on Argentina.  Scotland led 1-0 at the half and seemed to have the game in control.  When they took a 3-0 lead into the 70th minute, it looked likely that they would grab a top third place seed and move on.  And then Argentina came to life, with the help of VAR and scored three goals to tie it up 3-3.

It was one of the most dramatic finishes I have seen in a live soccer game.  Sally and I were in disbelief after the game.  The Scottish fans (rightfully so) were cussing their way out of the stadium while the team was gutted on the field, wandering around, hugging and consoling one another and wondering what might have been.

Welcome to the 2019 Women’s World Cup…things will definitely continue to heat up!
